A beginner’s checklist for evaluating information online
Verify sources, dates, and context before sharing advice.
It is easy to mistake confident writing for reliable information. Before sharing an article, inspect its author, supporting evidence, and publication date.
Check the original source
Look for official documents or first-hand reporting when the claim relates to rules, prices or public announcements. Screenshots without links may omit important context.
Compare independent coverage
When a claim matters, read at least one additional source. Be wary of sites that repeat the exact same wording without evidence.
Separate opinion from fact
Authors can make recommendations, but readers benefit when the underlying facts and assumptions are clearly explained. If the claim affects health, finances or legal rights, consult qualified sources before acting.
